Roth Sheppard Temporarily Moves to The Lydian
As the sun sets on July 31st, our lease will be up and Roth Sheppard will bid adieu to the Wazee Exchange. Our Partners have purchased a new building in the historic Five Points Neighborhood, and we aim to reimagine the space and create a new haven for our team. The demolition has already commenced, and by early 2024, our vision will be complete.
Faced with the prospect of a prolonged period without a home, our 40-year-old studio flirted with the idea of embracing a remote work environment. However, we realized that such a move would stifle collaboration, the lifeblood of our architects and creators. Furthermore, it would tear apart a tightly knit group of people – We revel in each other's company.
We craved a place to call our own during the construction of the new building, even if just for a few months. Determined to satisfy the team, we scoured the streets of Five Points to find a temporary home. And lo and behold, we discovered The Lydian, on Welton Street – Home to the Venture X co-working space. The moment we laid eyes on it, we knew it was meant to be!
The Lydian draws its inspiration from the jazz revolutionaries who once graced the historic clubs along Welton Street. Since the 1930s, legendary musicians like Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, and Earl Hines unleashed their creative talents in the heart of Five Points, earning it the moniker, "The Harlem of the West." The Lydian Chromatic Concept, an ode to this artistic heritage, will keep creative fires ignited for Roth Sheppard.
With walls colored in vibrant hues and meeting rooms bearing names like "The Holiday," the team will be immersed with inspiration. Tantalizing cold brew and the invigorating elixir of kombucha are on tap to help fuel our minds. Private breakout spaces provide spots for plotting projects, while a pool table serves as a symbol of liberation. A secret sanctuary awaits on the rooftop, complete with a BBQ grill and… hot tub. To some of us, the hot tub is a dream come true. Others have referred to it as a nightmare. Either way, we are all excited!
One glitch. Our temporary home sets an outrageously high standard. Now we face a formidable challenge—to construct a permanent office space, in our new building, that can match The Lydian’s exuberant offerings. Designing our own headquarters drives our spirits, but the weight of expectations bears down on our shoulders.
With challenging work ahead of us, we are ready to embark on this wild journey. We will delve into the depths of our imagination, and channel our unwavering commitment to intention as we design an office space that tells the story of our firm, its people, and our new neighborhood!
The journey has only just begun...
