TEMENOS - Roth Sheppard Architects STUDIO

The Roth Sheppard Architects Studio was an opportunity to rethink how physical space can support ideation, allow clients to be the true focus of the design process, and facilitate the re-imaging of an architectural practice’s relationship to its community.

The ancient Greek word ‘Temenos’—which refers to a “sacred space within which magical things are free to occur”—not only informs the intention of the gallery-like space, but also serves as a benchmark for meaningful design and the firm’s rigorous approach to creating experiential spaces.

The elongated central spine of the office features a 55-foot-long communal table that catalyzes interaction and inclusion. Surrounded by towering sheer curtains that provide transparency to the workspaces located along both sides of the table. The firm invites clients, students, and the public to engage and learn as designers ideate around them to catalyze greater mutual discovery and interaction through the hosting of exhibitions, lectures, workshops and even a modern house competition.

Overall, this malleable, experimental space was designed to evolve and respond to the ongoing shifts brought on by new generations and changing public perceptions / expectations of the profession itself.
