Room & Board Cherry Creek
- Denver, CO
Room & Board’s design philosophy is deeply rooted in simple clean modernist beliefs. To visually extend on these beliefs this remodel to the 20,000sf Room & Board store in Cherry Creek transforms the existing concrete double ‘T’ warehouse into a transparent and inviting showcase for their modern furniture. Bookended by two opaque volumes, the glazed central section was originally clad in load bearing concrete panels (double T’s). the ‘Ts’ were removed and replaced with an open steel structural frame allowing for significant daylight to enter the building while referencing the module of the removed concrete panels.
The site is layered from street to building with urban interventions designed to screen and integrate the parking so it becomes an auto court and plaza. Adjacent to the building a strip of planting creates a visual screen between parking and building while visually extending the interior. Exterior cladding materials, stone and zinc shingles as well as log columns and cantilevered overhangs speak to the regional context and climate while subtly referencing the craft and materiality of the furniture displayed within.
Critical to the success of the project was the Design Build delivery process with Palace construction as the design build contractor.
