MONTEZUMA COUNTY COMBINED COURTS

  • Cortez, CO

The proposed Montezuma County Combined Courts project, located in the iconic Four Corners region of southwestern Colorado, will consolidate various elements of the 22nd Judicial District into a single 33,000 SF, two-story building. The building will contain four courtrooms, a probation department, and a Clerk of the Courts division.  Roth Sheppard Architects completed a space needs analysis and conceptual building design. The project is currently in the construction documents phase.
The overall concept of the building is derivative of Mesa Verde. A kiva element near the main public entry defines the entry plaza and functions as a public community room when not in use as a jury assembly room. The overall wedge-like form of the main building is symbolic of the plains rising to meet the mountains, while abstractly referencing the crevice in the Mesa Verde mountainside.
